Glenwild & Surrounding Area Trail System Map
New Interactive Map Animates Glenwild Loop Trail
May 22, 2006 (Park City, Utah)
Glenwild is proud announce a new feature available from every page of our Website; an interactive map showing the Glenwild Loop Trail and other surrounding area trails that connect to the Glenwild Loop. The Park City area trail system has a long history and now boasts 350 miles of trails. The Mountain Trails Foundation (MTF), lead by the Executive Director Carol Potter, is responsible for starting the greater Park City Trail System, along with Summit County. The MTF has been very involved in the upkeep, promotion and maintenance of the trails and in planning events on the Trail System. The MJM developers were also involved and started the original routes up the southern face of Glenwild which Glenwild then connected to creating the Glenwild Loop Trail. Later subdivisions and land acquisitions by Summit County have added to and expanded the County-wide system.
Glenwild is a very popular area for early and late season riding which includes several miles of south facing trails that tend to dry out quickly for early season use and after storms. Parking for all Glenwild trails is located at the Spring Creek Trailhead off of Bitner Road. Look for the small single stall restroom facility, pavilion and drinking fountain, with parking spaces out front. From there walk or ride across the bridge - the Glenwild Loop begins on either side, just across the creek.
Most users begin the loop to the left, following along the creek and then up the hillside above Kimball Junction. Most of the climbing is out of the way in the first few miles. After crossing over the top, the fun downhill is followed by a twisty section through the trees, followed by flat open meadows, and a gently climb up a sage covered hillside, before dropping down to the start. The entire loop is approximately 8.3 miles and is suitable for intermediate trail users.
Remember to keep dogs leashed at the trailhead, as well as along the trails. This is a very sensitive are for nesting wildlife along East Canyon Creek, and is one of the more popular trails for recreation in the greater Park City area. PLEASE don't forget to be grab a mutt mitt and clean up after your furry friend!
